Mark Krischak musical career is very fascinating ! Beginning with the The Clique & and the teenage prostitues ! His talent is beyond remarkable! And I believe He is a fundamental influence in starting the christian rock/punk movement in early 80’s ! Mark Krischak was the founding member of The Lifesavors way back in 1981. Before Knott took over changing the name to The Lifesavers in 1986. It is very confusing to follow all the bands Mark Krischak has been involved with . Because honestly it’s so many ! So thankfully someone made a chart to hopefully simplify this matter! (List seems to be missing his band The Jaded from early 90″s)

In 1981 it was the new Orange County ,CA bands that had everyone talking. Especially one in particular called The Lifesavors fronted by Mark Krischak(Vocals, & Guitar) , with Chris Wimber (bass), Kevin Annis (drums), and Micheal Knott (guitars). The Lifesavors recorded their debut 1981 album called US Kids , for the Ministry Resource Center(MRC) an outreach of Chuck Smiths Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. Mike Knott’s stage antics may have gotten the band in trouble with some of the local churches. At the same time John Wimber (Vineyard) was encouraging the band to tour the country and help plant Vineyard churches. But Mike Knott had no plans on church planting, and in frustration He quit The Lifesavors right before the band got signed to Refuge Records for the 1983 release of Dream Life. Then Brian Goins vocals were overdubbed over Mike Knott’s for the final released version of Dream Life we have today.

Kirk Heiner 2009 thoughts on the Dreamlife Album.
“Yes, Mike Knott did record the original vocal tracks, after Mike left the band, Brian Goins joined the group and then me. I recorded 6 of the songs and Brian sang 5 of them. We then went on tour but Brian couldn’t go, so Mark Krischak the original founder of the Lifesavors joined us for the tour.”

THE 120 MARK KRISCHAK TAPES

Mark Krischak is most well-known as the leader of The Lifesavors before Michael Knott took over. However, he had a large number of other bands before and after The Lifesavors. He had well over 120 tapes of the various bands, from formal demos to bootleg live recordings to jam box recordings of practice sessions. He would list these 120+ for sale in large magazine ads. The process apparently was that people would order a few of the tapes by number, and then he would fit as many of those on to one long blank cassette (or more if needed) and send them to you often with minimal packaging. This was one such tape, where someone had ordered #21 (Red Christmas – Live), #22 (Red Christmas – Practice Volume 1), and #30 (The Coolers – 14 Song Demo). Both Red Christmas and The Coolers were power pop bands not too far removed from The Lifesavors. The quality of the tapes were not that bad, but obviously spliced together at the source and then dubbed quickly on this tape (one song carries over from side 1 to side 2, and The Coolers is missing the last 3-4 songs). The practice demo contains a lot of improvisation, starts and stops, working out the chords and parts, and so on. Also, The Coolers songs are the exact same versions as the ones on their 10,000 Bands demo, but that one only has 12 songs. So I am not sure what the two extra songs are, since they are cut off here. Just an interesting look into the way the tape trading underground was. I wonder if anyone ever got to hear all 120+ tapes? Jeani Bond maybe? Also note that this compilation was sent after Krischak moved to japan.
